Belonging: Seeing Religious Diversity, Building Inclusive Cities

Belonging is an interfaith photography and audio exhibition presenting the personal experiences of people from Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish and Christian faith communities in five European cities (Geneva, London, Rome, Vienna and Bonn) and one rural area in Greece. Photographic portraits are paired with audio testimonies, accessible through QR codes, so that participants speak about their experiences in their own voice. The testimonies respond to two questions: what does it look like when I experience belonging, and what does it look like when I do not experience belonging. The stories are presented not as parallel narratives of different religions, but as expressions of a shared search for visibility, dignity, safety and participation.

The exhibition serves as a starting point for reflection on the role of local authorities, educational institutions and civil society in creating cities where religious diversity is recognised as a valuable element of public life. It is a collaborative project co-created by the 2025-2026 international KAICIID Fellows: Basya Gartenstein, Hannah Larn (Rose Castle Foundation), Mariia Levchenko (Academy of International Affairs NRW), Eleonora Mura (Arigatou International) and Angeliki Ziaka.

Location: Academy of International Affairs NRW, Rheinallee 24, 53173 Bonn
