Event Report: International Security Forum Bonn 2025

From October 29 to November 1, 2025, the ninth International Security Forum Bonn (ISFB) took place, organized by the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) at the University of Bonn. The AIA NRW was once again a cooperation partner this year and participated with its team and fellows in the discussions on the main days.

While the participants and panelists dealt with the major geopolitical major issues of the present, the second day of the conference focused on the topic of “Securing a Sustainable Space.” This allowed the Academy to build on last year’s focus topic, and several participants from the penultimate Summer Academy as well as some authors of the Academy’s book project were among the speakers. The evening reception took place on the academy’s premises.

After introductory remarks by academy director Mayssoun Zein Al Din, Antje Nötzold from the Bundeswehr University in Munich introduced Paul Höller, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia questions about “Europe’s Future in Space” and, in particular, the significance of space travel for North Rhine-Westphalia. The approximately 60 participants then had the opportunity to continue the informal exchange on these topics at a small reception.
