AIA Fellows Yi hyun Kang and Tuhinsubhra Giri took part in a webinar organised by the Kenya-based NGO African Centre for Technology Studies as part of the United Nations Climate Change PCCB Network, which focused on how National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) can be implemented through better science communication. Many countries already have National Climate Adaptation Plans, but their implementation – particularly at local level – is stalling.

One reason for this is that complex climate science and policy measures are often not communicated in a way that is understandable and tailored to the target audience. Various communication tools, case studies and strategies were presented. During this webinar, the two AIA Fellows shared their expertise with the participants. Yi Hyun Kang presented her field research, carried out at the AIA, on the use of AI during the SB 64 climate negotiations in Bonn last June. Tuhinsubhra Giri organised an interactive activity in breakout sessions, during which participants explored how to translate the NAP objectives into clear, understandable and action-oriented messages.
